I was hospitalized for serious illness as a child and, after having been a dancer, I then was on five-years of restricted activity. During that time, the constant message to me, along with the constant medical intervention, was "If you move, you die." I appeared healthy to others, but deeply understand how medical challenges can impact childhood. I also have a son who had serious, life-threatening illness for a long time, so I also comprehend the effect on the parents of serious childhood medical problems.
While I do not and cannot fully understand the circumstances and experiences of the children and parents served by Fresh Start, I do understand enough that it seems perfectly in line with my life experiences to support them in whatever way is possible to me. While I have had cancer and have reasons to connect with other organizations that support healthcare and recovery, Fresh Start is in my community, literally across the hall from my office! I need look no further for a great organization to help support.
